The wild and lonely Fastnet so stately and so brave, So true an ocean sentinel to those upon the wave, It cheers the storm tossed mariner when weary from the fight, How joyfully he hears the shout, ahoy, the Fastnet light, The Fastnet, the Fastnet, among the breakers white, The Fastnet, the Fastnet, the good old Fastnet light.

IDEA

Anyone who has already read the chapters on the history of the boat and Doug Peterson will have guessed it - it makes perfect sense to take part in the FASTNET RACE with SNIFIX DRY: She comes from the period when the ADMIRAL'S CUP was of particular importance as the unofficial ocean sailing world championship, the FASTNET RACE was the highlight this cup, the IOR formula was the relevant measurement rule, and Douglas Peterson was one of the outstanding IOR designers. In addition, the team of SAUDADE, RUBIN and CARINA III managed to win the Cup under the German flag for the first time in 1973, i.e. SNIFIX DRY originates from the period of the greatest popularity of the FASTNET RACE, especially in Germany.

Against this background, it is almost surprising that she has not yet taken part in this legendary regatta. But at least she had participated in the  EDINGURGH RACE in 1980, even with an editor of the YACHT MAGAZINE on board.

The idea of sailing the FASTNET had been in our heads for a long time - in 2019 we plucked up the courage to turn this vague idea into a pratical project: we want to sail the FASTNET 2021!

Companions were quickly found and all of the same caliber - enthusiasts with no regatta experience, a crew of a bit elderly guys,  but with the SNIFIX heart in the right place: This boat simply deserves to be rocked around the rock for once!
