INTERNATIONAL GERMAN OFFSHORE SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP 2024- HELGOLAND

Heading 1

IDEA

When we planned our first participation in the FASTNET RACE 2021 in 2019, we had planned to get some regatta and long-distance practice at the NORDSEEWOCHE and especially by participating in RUND SKAGEN before the big event. As we all know, this did not happen, as these regattas were canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

In 2022 and 2023 we stayed in the Channel with SNIFIX (overwintering in Cherbourg and St. Cast le Guildo respectively) and the NORTH SEA WEEK was thus out of reach for us.

However, after we brought SNIFIX back to Bremerhaven for winter storage in autumn 2023, the matter was clear: in 2024 we will make up for what we missed in 2020 - this time we're going to NORDSEEWOCHE and Rund Skagen.

We then registered for three races, namely

  • Transfer Regatta BREMERHAVEN-HELGOLAND, for the race

  • CAPITELL RUND HELGOLAND, and for the long distance

  • PANTAENIUS ROUND SKAGEN

Since the combination of RUND HELGOLAND and RUND SKAGEN also represented the INTERNATIONAL GERMAN OFFSHORE SAILING CHAMPIONSHIP, it was practically automatic that we would also take part in the Championship. Due to our waterline length, we were grouped with the larger, fast yachts in the ORC A class - our performance potential according to APH was certainly more in line with that of the ORC B group. But that ultimately didn't do any harm, because within the groups, the scores were based on APH.

And as a crew we competed with the tried and tested line-up, reinforced for the first two races by Mark from Bremen as a regatta newcomer on board SNIFIX DRY.
